Law Change: Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022
From January 23, 2023, it has become a legal requirement under the new

Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 for all high-rise residential

buildings in England to have Wayfinding Signage installed.
This includes clear markings to identify the floor and individual flat

numbers.

Why the change?
The Grenfell Tower Inquiry Phase 1 report highlighted that within the

building, the stairwell landings were
not clearly marked with floor numbers making it difficult for fire-fighters

to determine which floor they
were on while carrying out their duties.
In response, the Inquiry put forward Recommendation 33.27, stating that

in all high-rise buildings “floor
numbers be clearly marked on each landing within the stairways and in a prominent place in all lobbies in
such a way as to be visible both in normal conditions and in low lighting or smoky conditions".
